A quick side note. Whenever you buy select
organic cotton t-shirts and tank tops, you help us contribute to
1% for the planet. This program is set up to so that whenever an
item is purchased, 1% of the total is donated to the 1% for the
planet. This program exists to build and support an alliance of
businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet.
So, who are our
customers?
Like many businesses our friends and families were our first
customers. After word spread about us, we found that there is a
lot of hemp purists (people who buy hemp because they know that
hemp can help save our planet!) people who live the eco friendly
lifestyle and people just starting on the path to being eco
friendly.
What fibers do our
products utilize?
There are three main fibers our products are made from, these
three renewable resources are: bamboo, hemp and organic cotton.
One advantage to buying clothing made from these fibers is that
they are great for people who have chemical sensitivities.
Perhaps the best thing about our items is that you are helping
to offset your carbon footprint by buying items that are either
made from renewable resources or made from recycled products.
Examples of such items that are made from recycled products are:
recycled PVC, recycled rubber, recycled paper and recycled PET
plastics. In the future we will be expanding our line to include
more recycled products.
Why use Bamboo?
The first reason we choose bamboo products is because bamboo is
a renewable
resource and it can be grown in
many parts of the world. Did you know that bamboo is naturally
microbial? Did you know that bamboo provides UVA protection? Did
you know that bamboo returns 30% more oxygen to the atmosphere
than trees? A bonus is that Bamboo also has the drape and feel
of silk or cashmere without the expense. To learn more about
bamboo, please visit our education area.
Why use Hemp?
Again, the first reason we choose hemp products is because hemp
is one of the most renewable resources on earth. Hemp can be
harvested up to four times a year. Hemp can also be grown in all
four regions of the USA. Hemp needs very little water and
requires no pesticides during its growing cycle. Hemp also
replenishes the nutrients in the soil during its growing cycle,
which makes it a perfect rotational crop for farmers. Many
believe that hemp can help save the planet from global warming!
Hemp has over 25,000 uses including beauty products, bio-fuel,
bio plastics, building materials, clothing, food, paper and so
much more!!! To learn more about hemp, please visit our
education area.
Why use Organic
Cotton?
As with bamboo and hemp, organic cotton is a renewable resource.
The major advantage that organic cotton has over conventional
cotton is that organic cotton is grown without pesticides and it
is processed without harsh chemicals. Organic cotton is slowly
being more accepted throughout the world. The reason for its
slow acceptance is because of the costs associated with its
chemical free growing and processing. To learn more about
organic cotton, please visit our education area.
Speaking of costs,
why are your items priced so high?
The short answer is that we have to import 98% of our inventory.
Until bamboo, hemp and organic cotton are grown and processed in
the USA - the cost of importing them will remain high. The other
way that prices will come down, is when consumers continue to
buy more of these products. Unfortunately the people who change
laws only respond when the almighty dollar is waved in their
face. Did you know that the USA is the number one importer of
hemp? Did you know that in the February 1937 issue of Popular
Mechanics hemp was touted as the first MILLION DOLLAR crop? That
term had never been used before. In today’s terms, hemp could be
valued at 50 million plus per year! Can you say NO DEFICIT?
So, if you import
your most of your items- where do they come from?
First, we try to find as many products as possible that are Made
in the USA. We have a strong belief that the USA has and is a
world leader in the products we produce. We need to get the
federal government to open their minds to the potential that the
USA can be a world leader if we were allowed to grow and process
hemp. Currently we have a few vendors who make their items in
the USA. The other places we import from are Canada, Romania,
India, Thailand and China. We realize that there are a lot of
inferior products coming out of China these days, but we look
for high quality products that meet our standards.
What about sweatshops
and fair trade in those countries?
The fact is we try to research the companies before we bring
their products to our company. The reality is that we have to
rely on the internet and what the companies themselves tell us.
We are a small business and we do not have the means to travel
to the different countries to investigate these companies.
So what’s your
opinion about the direction the world is headed in regards to
the environment?
We believe we are at pivotal point in history. For the first time
in history, the world is focused on moving toward using
sustainable energy and eco friendly production practices. If we
keep moving in that direction we can help reverse some of the
damages that were done in the past. If we can maintain this
momentum, our technologies for producing clean energy and a
sustainable lifestyle will take giant steps forward. Just look
at the solar energy and wind energy technology. Ten years ago
technology in those fields was growing at a snail's pace.
Currently we are moving forward at a tortoise pace. Hopefully
very soon we will be running at a rabbits pace.
There really isn’t one answer to a
sustainable and eco friendly future. We believe that it will take
a combination of multiple technologies to move the entire world
to a well balanced world. Once big business gets the idea that
eco friendly and sustainable practices can line their pockets
with green backs and they can have a clear conscience,
technology will advance in the right direction at an even faster
pace.
Do you have products
available to companies wanting to improve their eco friendly
image?
Yes, we have an area under construction that will contain as
many eco friendly items as possible. These items will be
available for “branding” and they will be as eco friendly as
possible. The thought behind this section, is that it will be a
one stop shop for businesses looking for eco friendly items.
Do you have
consultants available?
Yes, we are ready to help individuals and businesses that are
seeking to live a balanced and sustainable life.
